Bifold doors in Brentwood
Brentwood, Shenfield and Hutton have some of the widest rear openings we see — detached and larger semi-detached homes where a five, six or even seven sash bifold can replace a whole rear wall of patio doors and windows.
Those bigger spans are where buying factory-direct matters most: wide sets mean more sashes, more glass and more to get right. Your doors are fabricated six miles away in our Romford factory, so wide or unusual sizes are made to measure rather than forced into stock sizes.
Brentwood homes and what suits them
Detached houses around Hutton Mount and Shenfield commonly take 4 to 6 sash bifolds; executive new builds off Ongar Road often have structural openings ready for a full-width set. Our standard range covers openings up to 8400 mm wide — beyond that, contact us and we will look at it as a bespoke project.
From our Romford factory to Brentwood
Distance from our Romford factory: about 6 miles — a 20 minute run up the A12 or through Harold Hill. Larger multi-sash sets are delivered on our own transport with each sash individually protected.
Brentwood questions, answered
How wide can a bifold set for a Brentwood detached house be?
Our standard range covers up to 8400 mm across up to 7 sashes, each sash up to 1200 mm wide and 2100 mm tall. Wider openings are possible as a bespoke project — call 07400 000613 and we will look at the sizes.
Can you match the bifold colour to my existing windows?
Yes. We powder coat in-house, so as well as standard anthracite, black and white we can coat any RAL shade to match existing frames — bespoke colours are priced on request.
We're in a conservation area in Brentwood. Any issues?
Conservation areas mostly affect the front of a property; rear bifolds are usually fine. We suggest checking with Brentwood Borough Council for your street, and we can supply drawings and specifications if needed.
Are very large glass panels heavy to fold?
Each sash runs on stainless steel rollers and carries up to 120 kg of glass, so even full-height panels move with one hand. You can try a working set at our Romford factory before ordering.
Questions homeowners ask us
How much do aluminium bifold doors cost per sash?
Aluminium bifold doors cost from £475 per sash, supply, with Low-E clear toughened glass included. A three sash set is from £1,425 and a four sash set from £1,900, supply. Installation services are available with a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee, and safety laminate glass is available — contact us for a price. Installation, options and the final price are confirmed after a free survey.
What glass is included in the price?
Low-E clear toughened safety glass is included in the standard £475 per sash supply price. Low-E glass has a coating that reflects heat back into the room, which keeps the space warmer in winter. Toughened glass is the standard safety glass used in doors. Triple glazing is available — contact us for a price.
What is safety laminate glass and when is it needed?
Safety laminate is two sheets of glass bonded with an interlayer, so the pane holds together if it breaks. It is worth choosing where security matters, in busy family areas, or where falling glass would be a risk. Safety laminate is available — contact us for a price.
Can I have blinds inside the glass?
Yes. We fit integrated magnetic blinds sealed inside the double glazed unit, so they never need cleaning and cannot be damaged by children or pets. Blinds are priced per project, so we quote them after the survey. Call 07400 000613 and we will price your sizes.
How long does installation take?
Our lead time is 10 to 15 days from order, with every set made in our own Romford factory. We book your installation once your doors are built and confirm dates with you directly rather than promising one up front. Fitting is carried out by our own employed installers, not subcontractors.
Are you FENSA registered?
Yes. Empire Aluminium Windows is FENSA registered, so your installation is certified for building regulations and you receive a FENSA certificate on completion. We are also SafeContractor approved, certificate VY9961, and a Constructionline Gold member, registration 1396074. The work is carried out by our own employed installers.
What guarantee do you give?
You get a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee on our installation. Insurance-backed means the guarantee is protected by an independent policy, so it still stands even if the installing company stops trading. You also receive your FENSA certificate on completion as proof the work meets building regulations.
Who makes the doors?
We do. Every bifold is cut, built and powder coated at our own factory, Unit 3 Northgate Industrial Estate, Collier Row Road, Romford RM5 2BG. Empire Aluminium Windows is a trading name of Empire Facade Group Ltd, company no. 13655313. No importer, no reseller, no middle man.
Which areas do you cover?
We cover London and the surrounding areas, including Romford, Ilford, Brentwood, Upminster, Hornchurch, Loughton and Grays. Because the factory is in Romford, surveys and installations in East London and nearby areas are usually the quickest to book.
What is included in the price?
The £475 per sash price covers supply: fabrication in our Romford factory, powder coating and Low-E clear toughened glass. Installation services are available with a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee and a FENSA certificate on completion. Installation, options and the final price are quoted after a free survey, with no obligation.
How energy efficient are your bifold doors?
Our aluminium bifold door system achieves a Uw value as low as 1.4 W/m²K with double glazing, measured in system testing. The frames are thermally broken aluminium, so heat is not conducted straight through the metal, and Low-E glass reflects warmth back into the room. The doors meet Building Regulations Part L for energy.
Are your bifold doors secure?
Yes. The glazing on our aluminium bifold door system is internally beaded, so the glass cannot be removed from the outside, and toughened safety glass is fitted as standard. For extra security you can upgrade to safety laminate glass, which holds together even if a pane breaks — contact us for a price.
Can the doors open outwards?
Yes. Our aluminium bifold door system opens inwards or outwards, folding fully to the left, fully to the right or split from the centre. A French door, centre-opening configuration is also available. Most homeowners choose outward opening, which keeps the folded sashes outside and saves floor space in the room.
Is there a low threshold?
Yes. A 15 mm low threshold option gives level, barrier-free access between inside and outside, with no step to trip on. It suits level patios, wheelchair access and pushchairs, and supports Building Regulations Part M on access. Tell us at the survey if you want it and we will check your floor levels.
What is the largest sash you make?
The largest sash on this offer is 1200 mm wide by 2100 mm high, with up to 120 kg of glass carried per sash. With up to 7 sashes that is a maximum opening width of 8,400 mm. If your opening is bigger, call us on 07400 000613 and we will look at it.
Can I have a bespoke RAL colour?
Yes. Any RAL colour is available — contact us for a price. Anthracite grey RAL 7016, jet black RAL 9005 and traffic white RAL 9016 are the standard colours. We powder coat in-house, so bespoke colours do not hold up your order.
